stammt aus Tucson, Arizona.
Wie viele andere schwarze Musiker sammelte er seine ersten musikalischen Erfahrungen in der Kirche. Bereits mit neun Jahren leitete er seine eigene Band "Gospel Notes". Auf dem College in Huntville, Alabama, gründete er seine "Rick Cotton Singers". Das dynamische junge Ensemble stand damals in direkter Konkurrenz zu einer anderen lokalen Gesangsgruppe, den heute weltbekannten "Take 6". Schon seit diesen Zeiten nimmt die Gospel-Musik einen wichtigen Teil im Leben der Cotton-Familie ein.
Mit 21 Jahren zog Rick nach Kalifornien. Dort lernte er die Rock'n Roll-Legende "Little Richard" kennen und ging als Pianist mit seiner Band auf USA-Tournee. Er absolvierte zahllose TV-Auftritte, trat in der "Grand Ole Opry" auf und arbeitete mit vielen bekannten Sängern wie z.B Patty Labelle oder den Allman Brothers. Außerdem war er als Backgroundsänger bei einer Michael Jackson Tournee dabei.
1986 kam Rick Cotton nach Deutschland - und blieb. Er spielte zunächst in US Offizier-Clubs und begleitete amerikanische Showstars wie z.B. Mariah Carey bei Live-Auftritten in Europa. Er trat bei vielen Radio- und Fernsehprogrammen wie z. B. bei Thomas Gottschalks ´Wetten dass´ Sendung auf. Als Pianist der Jackson-Singers absolvierte er mehrere Tourneen, wieder mit der vertrauten Gospel-Musik.
Als Pianist und Sänger wurde er festes Mitglied des internationalen Ensembles "Gospel Jamboree" mit dem er in Deutschland, Österreich, Dänemark, Frankreich, Luxemburg, und Ungarn auftrat. Rick war auf Tournee mit den Golden Gospel Singers, den Jackson Singers, Sydney Ellis, Joan Faulkner und vielen mehr. Hinzu kommen Auftritte in Israel für das amerikanische Außenministerium.
Uber die Jahre baute er mit seinen talentierten Töchtern und befreundeten Musikern die Gospel Family Gruppe neu auf.
Sie begannen mit ihrem Vater zusammen dessen selbst produzierte Musik zu singen, die u. a beim Gospel-Festival in Magdeburg, bei den Gelnhäuser Jazztagen und bei Galas in Regensburg, Würzburg und Bottrop ihre neuen, peppigen Gesangs-Arrangements darboten.

Like many other black musicians, he gained his first musical experiences in the church. Already at the age of nine he directed his own band "Gospel Notes". At the college in Huntville, Alabama, he founded his "Rick Cotton Singers". At the time, the dynamic young ensemble was in direct competition with another local singing group, the now world-famous "Take 6". Gospel music has been playing an important part in the life of the Cotton family ever since.
Rick moved to California at the age of 21. There he became acquainted with the rock 'n roll legend "Little Richard" and went as a pianist with his band on USA tour. He completed countless TV appearances, appeared in the "Grand Ole Opry" and worked with many well-known singers such as Patty Labelle or the Allman Brothers. He was also a background singer on a Michael Jackson tour.
In 1986 Rick Cotton came to Germany - and stayed. He first played in US officer clubs and accompanied American show stars such as Mariah Carey in live performances in Europe. He has appeared on many radio and television programs such as in Thomas Gottschalk's 'Wetten dass' broadcast on. As a pianist of the Jackson-Singers, he completed several tours, again with the familiar gospel music.
As a pianist and singer, he became a permanent member of the international ensemble "Gospel Jamboree" with whom he performed in Germany, Österreich, Denmark, France, Luxemburg, and Hungary. Rick has toured with the Golden Gospel Singers, the Jackson Singers, Sydney Ellis, Joan Faulkner and many more. There are also appearances in Israel for the US State Department.
Over the years he rebuilt the Gospel Family Group with his talented daughters and friendly musicians.
Together with her father they began to sing their self-produced music, performing at the Gospel Festivals in Magdeburg, the Gelnhauser Jazztagen and at Galas in Regensburg, Würzburg and Bottrop, their new, upbeat vocal arrangements.
